Merseyside’s second Royal golf course, Royal Birkdale Golf Club is a popular destination for international championships and has regularly hosted The Open, most recently in 2008.
As such it’s famous around the world as a testing links course and for its iconic art-deco clubhouse. It’s also right on the coast and can get rather windy.
Royal Birkdale is situated between the small town of Formby – on the northern-most edges of Liverpool – and Southport, but can be reached from the city centre in around 20 minutes.
£130 will buy a day’s green fees and meal at the end of it at what’s generally regarded as one of the best clubs in the world.
