Royal Liverpool Golf Club is situated on the far north-west edge of the Wirral peninsula, surrounded by the pretty villages of West Kirby and Hoylake. The club also, informally, takes its name from the latter and represents one of the oldest links courses in the country.

It’s also one of the best – and hosts major tournaments, such as The Open. However, you can pay green fees of around £100 if you want to tackle this tricky course.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club is also one one of the prettier spots of the Wirral too, and there’s plenty of wildlife to be spotted along the lonely, dramatic coastline.
