Things to do:

Part of a UK-wide chain, but feeling pleasingly homespun, Brasco Lounge faces the new extension to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, to the rear of the jagged black Mann Island development. Currently, it’s a lone outpost in this corner of the waterfront, so welcomes hardy visitors heartily.

Good breakfasts, ciabatta sandwiches, tapas (three for £7.95), coffees and the like. Vegans and coeliacs are well served too, with regulars and specials. And there’s a rotating menu of dishes sourced from local ingredients.

At night, the lights dim to make the lounge a chilled out spot for catching up with friends over wine. A good choice, should you wish to escape the crowds for a couple of hours. In good weather, the outside terrace is one of the nicest places to sit and watch the sun go down, the waters of the Albert Dock lapping in the background.
