A beautiful Green Flag park (the benchmark for green spaces in the UK), Calderstones is home to stunning oriental gardens adding a touch of the exotic to south Liverpool – the botanic garden contains no less than 4,000 specimens from around the world.
Pride of place in the park, though, is an English specimen: The Allerton oak tree is reputed to be over 1,000 years old. Home to the six neolithic calderstones (Liverpool’s oldest trace of our pre-historic forebears) the park is also constantly reinventing itself too.
Calderstones is now home to the popular Liverpool International Tennis Tournament and Liverpool’s excellent literature champions, The Reader Organisation. Also worth visiting is the park’s lively Coach House Gallery – home to local and visiting exhibitions.
