Areas:

The UK’s foremost centre for digital arts, film and new media, FACT single-handedly shook this now buzzing area of Liverpool back to life. With three galleries, an art-house cinema, a bar and cafe, there’s always something worth calling in for.

Over the past two decades, FACT has presented some of the city’s most memorable installations (including Nam June Paik, Mark Wallinger, and Pipilotti Rist) and age shows no sign of diminishing this singular and impressive organisation: if you’re at all interested in the intersection of sound, vision and emotion, FACT is a must-visit.

The FACT building also houses creative businesses and hosts workshops and seminars in creative industries, but the three Picturehouse cinema screens attract the most attention, with a mix of mainstream, arthouse, local and classic films alongside ‘as-live’ performances from the National Theatre and various opera festivals.

FACT also houses an excellent cafe and a separate bar area – drinks from the bar can be taken into the cinema, meaning visitors can enjoy a beer with a film. The Box is a hybrid gallery and cinema space that offers comfy sofas to cinema-goers.

Free (apart from cinema), disabled access, free wifi, lift, cafe.
