Formerly a lived-in, scuffed up old man’s pub – and most recently Bier, the Newington Temple is enjoying a new lease of life courtesy of a much-needed refurb and reboot.

There are still continental and North American beers by the can to enjoy – and some lesser-spotted cask ale such as Purity – but there’s fast-food, cocktails and sweet treats now, the latter courtesy of Laura’s Little Bakery.

Newington Temple isn’t the biggest place, but, being a stone’s throw from Bold Street’s independent stretch of shops, is a popular and friendly stop-off. Within, a students and creative crowd mixes convivially with the bar’s former patrons, who are still welcomed in with open arms and a filled-up pint glass.

Footy, cricket and NFL are on the telly, while a host of live music and DJs from the city get the party started on weekends at Newington Temple.
