It’s been through several iterations (and music policies) over the years, but today’s Magnet is a funk/soul/breaks hang out, with a sunken basement dancefloor, a friendly crowd and a year-round programme of visiting DJs, occasional live bands and regular club nights. Expect regular comedy in the basement too.

Upstairs, snug booths and cheap drinks attract a studenty/bo-ho crowd who are happy enough to listen to piped in music such as Beastie Boys/Dusty Springfield/Roy Ayres. Always a good spot to start the big walk into town.
