On the edge of Liverpool’s Chinatown, Tokyou’s an extremely popular little noodle bar that serves up big, hot, affordable portions to a clientele of in-the-know locals, students and hungry office workers on their way home.

It gets extremely busy at peak dinner times, so expect a line out the door and steamy windows on busier nights. It’s usually worth the wait: the food is good quality, and service attentive and fast, though it’s not the place to spend a leisurely couple of hours as turnover is quick.

In 2016 Tokyou closed and subsequently reopened, having dropped the ‘u’ from its name.
