Yes it’s a chain, but it’s a good ‘un. Byron Hamburgers joins the ranks of great burgers in Liverpool with good, simple food and a superb list of craft beers probably unparalleled in the city (Camden, Kernel, Thornbridge, Brewdog etc).

Byron’s burgers, thicker than most, have a reassuringly red and juicy heart, and a nice, charcoaly-burned crunch to their outer edges on a bun that’s briochey and buttery. Extras include blue cheese, dry cure bacon, chillis or Byron’s in-house sauce.

Make sure you go for the skin-on fries – always the superior fried potato product – and lovely, crispy courgette chips but think twice about the olives. They were rubbish when we went.

Find it in Liverpool ONE, a very short walk from the bus station or Liverpool Central – plus most of the big shops in the city centre and Albert Dock, should you need refuelling.
