West Tower is Liverpool’s tallest building and perfectly captures that early 21st century rush to the stars – when every city was seemingly infected with the need to build tall and build sleek.
It’s still the third tallest building outside London, and, with its sloping pinnacle, and red-neon bracelet is a jaunty addition to the skyline north of the Pier Head.
It’s home to local developers Beetham and, above its 127 apartments, is the site for Britain’s tallest restaurant, the suitably swish Panoramic – on the 34th floor. With its floor-to-ceiling windows, this is without doubt the best view of the city you can get. If you can stand heights, lunch is a must-do.
